This past month has been non - stop busy. It was nice to finally have a weekend to escape from responsibilities and take the time to relax. Last Wednesday I attended the Bright Eyes concert with a friend. Besides the pixilated and distorted photos/videos on my phone, I only have my memory to document this event... It was a funny situation because we somehow managed to sneak our way out of general admission seating to reserved seating for free... too good!!

Yesterday I accompanied the boy for a last minute photoshoot with his band. They shot in a huge beautiful loft in downtown LA. Instantly my visual thinking took place, painting pictures in my head of how I want to decorate my new apartment this summer. Jessica and I ventured off for a little to give ourselves the grand tour of the place and attempt to "play" pool. After shooting for a few hours, we went to Wurstküche, a german pub specializing in hot dogs. Despite having a large array of veggie sausage's an ice cold soy vanilla chai seemed far more appealing from the organic cafe next door :p.

I will definitely be glued to my computer for a few days. On another note, I was able to snag myself a ticket for his show in Pomona right before it Sold Out! I am definitely excited, but genuinly sad that this will be the end of Bright Eyes...

Lately the weather here in CA has been nearly perfect. The boy and I decided to take advantage of it and drive to the "country". I say it in quotes because it actually is just a small town about 15 miles in the backwoods of my home. We had a perfect little picnic before sunset. He brought the wine, I brought the food... and I snapped these few shots in the 30 minute slot of sunlight we had left. For future reference, we should definitely come earlier in the day and bring tons of blankies for night time! Our adventure was cut way too short!

Last weekend, my good friend Suzy invited me to attend her sister Yukimi's show at the Echoplex. We all met up at her house, got ready, and headed to the venue in LA. We had arrived two hours into the show and there was still a line wrapped around the building. Not sure if it was people waiting in line to get in or waiting for more tickets to be released to the sold out show. (mind you I have been to this venue handfuls of times and it's never been this packed!!) Little Dragon has surely acquired a diverse fan base, (i saw fans older than my parents at this show!) and i'm sure their recent tour with the Gorillaz has helped them immensely.

Don't forget to check their album "Machine Dreams" and the Gorillaz album they are featured in titled "Plastic Beach".

This weekend I went to the Black Ryder show at the Echo. They're are a bit of a Psychedelic band (with female singers ;), woowee!) from Australia that my boy really wanted to see. We made it in time for three songs... (this seems to be routine lately), went to Goldroom, then left to Chad's goodbye party before he left for tour today in the UK with his band Funeral Party. By then, my roll of film had ran out so these will have to suffice. xoxo

L.A Record Party

Before Christmas, LA Record threw their annual Holiday party. Conveniently enough, the party was held at the boys rehearsal space in Echo Park. Prior to the event, he had his own show with his band LA Ghost at the Redwood bar in LA. (their record comes out in March, i'll be sure to keep you posted.) We ended up arriving to the event around midnight and missing most of the acts that we were excited to see... typical.

Photos from Joellen's Birthday weekend. Dar, Wes, Cameron, Joellen & I went to the FYF Christmas party in Pomona. The venues were packed and it sold out by the time we got there at 11 so a few of my friends couldn't get in. We stuck around for a few bands including Crystal Antlers, one of my local faves. Afterwords we ate a late night snack at Alladin Jrs and called it a night.

What are everyone's New Years plans? I still don't have plans yet and it's a few hours away... hmm...

PS: Sorry for the slack of posts! The quality of my posts weaken as my memory gets fuzzier each week that passes. My new years resolution is to document more and take more photos!

Snapped these photos a few weeks ago when my friend got Joellen & I into Disneyland. Unfortunately I had forgotten the existence of my camera that was shoved to the bottom of my purse mid way through the day. I wish I had captured all the magical Christmas decorations :(. We had to cut our adventure short and ended up only riding the Haunted Mansion & It's a Small World due to non-friendly weather. BUT on the brighter side, my mother is getting me a Disneyland pass as a late Christmas present! More Disneyland adventures to come.

Saturday was Joellen's birthday. We spent the evening in Pomona for the FYF Fest Christmas party. For those of you who see me post constantly about FYF events, it's a nonprofit / non organization of friends who basically team up to throw and promote local shows as well as giving back to the community with charity drives. It has greatly evolved since the beginning and i'm so happy to see how much exposure it's getting! It has given me so many opportunities and i'm so glad to be a part of the team. We ended up coming a little bit late but I was happy to see one of my favorite local bands Crystal Antlers perform.

Annnnnd a delayed batch of photos from a few weeks ago when my friends band My Pet Saddle played a show in Anaheim. If you're in the area, you should definitely come out and see them play tonight at the Commonwealth Lounge in Fullerton. Should be fun!

FYF FEST Scavenger Hunt!

I wanted to take the time to inform all my viewers about an upcoming event that the FYF team is putting on..

The goal of the Scavenger Hunt is to raise $100,000 for the Union Rescue Mission, the LA Food Bank, and the LA Burrito Project. The grand prize of the hunt is 4 passes to attend one of the biggest music festivals in the world, Primavera Sound in Barcelona Spain, $2,500 flight credit, and 3 nights at a hotel which takes place in May of 2011. Other prizes include a $250 shopping spree with Keith Morris of Black Flag and Circle Jerks at Fingerprints in Long Beach.

HOW IT WORKS

Teams will consist of 2 - 5 people. The Hunt Begins at 2:00pm at Dodger Stadium Parking lot and ends at 8:00pm. Parking is free to enter and exit the parking lot.

The list for the scavenger hunt is 100 items. Each item is worth a certain amount of points. Every item on the list is worth a certain amount of points and the team with the most points wins the grand prize.

Forty (40) of the items are material goods that the URM and LA Food Bank are in constant need of. For example, one can of food is worth 3 points. Other items are socks, shoes, dry food such as rice and pasta, tampons, make up etc. Everyday accessories that the URM is always in need of.

The other sixty (60) items are what makes the scavenger hunt an exciting and memorable event. We can share with you a handful of them...

EXAMPLES FROM PREVIOUS YEARS

-Photograph of team members with bride and groom (extra points if bride is on team members shoulders).

-Photograph of team member kissing drive thru employee of a fast food restaurant.

-Life size cut of Freddy Mercury (Hint: Kinko's).

-All team members get cornrows and extended fingernails.

-Brazilian Flag.

We can't tell you anymore but promise you that there is nothing on the list that is illegal. Some of things are ridiculous but they are all in good fun.

We want to make it very clear that everyone has a chance to win. The winning team will be chosen by how many items on the list they completed and how well they were completed.

There will also be a max amount of points your team can receive by turning in material goods. This keeps the event very fair and does not open the doors for someone with deep pockets to win.

And the best part is, you get to dress up with your team! So get creative and come out and have a good time for a good cause :).

Midnight Bowling

Last week I was invited by one of my favorite comedians, Eric Wareheim to the Tim and Eric 2010 Tour in Pomona. You can catch their show on Adult Swim. I had sent him a clip of my cat watching their "Ooh Mama" clip which scored me a pair of free tickets!! Yay!! Unfortunately, my roll of film had melted ruining most of my well-documented weekend adventures..

Thursday night, Shawn & Kathy picked me up and we headed down to the Laguna Beach Artwalk to watch LA Ghost play.

Later that night, we grabbed a few drinks and headed to Dub Strike. (Dubstep + Free Bowling)

Before we even got inside, Kathy and I were escorted out for sneaking over the patio gate. We were still able to get in though.. The crowd was oddly mixed with cholas and hipsters. Met up with a few friends.. and went bowling with Skerrit Bwoy.

He takes the cake for the craziest person i've ever met.. at one point he had used his Pon de Floor dance move on me, but instead of jumping off a ladder, he used a chair.

(I won by the way).

Last night, Joellen, Paul and I attended the RATATAT show in Pomona. Met up with Shawn, Christina, and Aaron. Hung out at the bar and had a drink with Vinh and Meg. Went into the theater once Ratatat started to play. It was such an amazing rush to see them perform live. I have been a big fan since the duo performed under the name "Cherry". The crowd was crazy and full of energy.. I somehow managed to convince the security to let me into the press pit to take photos which I will develop soon!! So epic. After the show, we went to the after party and that's when the chaos began.. Met up with some friends.. Joellen got a free adios from the bartender whom she later flashed her six year expired ID to and said it was her sister's who looks nothing like her. By the end of the night, I had to carry her to the car because she broke her foot. She is now in crutches..

Saturday was the free Hot Hot Heat/ Weezer show at the U.S. Open in Huntington Beach. We somehow managed to squeeze our way close to the stage through the crowd of thousands. But being 5'2" and standing behind the relatively tall surfer/bro crowd made it impossible to see. So I decided to make use of my crowd surfing skills and surf my way to the front! Success! Front row center. Unfortunately, my camera was in my purse that Serena was holding so I was unable to document the concert. Let's just say the crowd was insane, and both bands killed it. You know an artist is amazingly talented when they sound 100% better live than on record.

This is my last week of summer.. This Wednesday, Joellen and I are attending the Joan Jett/ Runaways concert. I had gotten my tickets a few months ago when my guitar instructor was the lead guitarist for Cherie Curry's new Runways band. Since then, the balding ex Guns N' Roses "drummer" Matt Sorum has taken over. Friday night, I am attending the RUSH concert with my friend Georgio & my dad. Perfect week to end summer.. Wednesday Nights at Madame Wong's

Last night, I was invited to an intimate show at the legendary Madame Wong's. It was the "Wavves" record release party. Pt and I grabbed a quick delicious dinner at Loving Hut and made our way to Chinatown in LA. We met up with my friend Nick and his girlfriend and I somehow ended up inside a Jazz Bar next store which happened to have a dub-step night going on. We ended up finding the correct venue next door, only to discover it was an actual loft, fully equipped with bedrooms, a dining room, a living room and a bathtub. Esther Wong was the original owner in the 1970's when it was a Chinese cuisine restaurant with a Polynesian dance floor-show. She was pushed into becoming a punk rock and new wave music promoter and Madame Wong's quickly became a showcase for unsigned, un-bookable punk bands such as The Police, The Go-Go's, Oingo Boingo, The Wild, The Kats/The Nu Kats, Gun's N Roses, Black Flag, Fear, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Ramones. This was one of the very few venues these types of bands could perform at. Thus this leading to her nickname as the "Godmother of Punk". The venue was closed down in 1985 due to a fire and re-opened in 2009 with acts such as Vampire Weekend and Devendra Banhart. I was sad to discover this historic venue will be closed for good on August 14th, but ultimately grateful I was invited to the last show before it closes.

Last night, a couple of my friends were playing at the House of Blues at Disneyland. It was the Dahga Bloom (formerly known as the Living Suns) & My Pet Saddle record release party. Taylor and the birthday boy-- Michael, picked me up and we headed to the show around nine. Picked up my ticket from will call & made my way into the show. Saw my friend Brandy stumbling around alone, so I played babysitter for awhile. Went with her to buy a pretzel and water as tourists and children nosily lurked at us. Met up with a bunch of friends I hadn't seen in a while. It was also my first time seeing my friend Chris play live. By the end of the night, he litterly had everyone dancing. It was amazing. Last week for Fourth of July, Joellen & I met up on our bikes to watch the firework production down the street. Of course, non of my film processed the firework display.

And Tuesday, my friend Mickey performed at the Crosby..

This weekend, I played it low-key with friends at Angel's house. We headed out to Venice beach at 4pm in our swimsuits.. we got lost, asked for directions, and ended up at the guys house from whom we asked directions from.. hmm.. Once we arrived at the beach, it started to rain. Just our luck..

Thursday night, Mickey and I headed downtown to check out the Crosby for a little.

Last Night was Megan and Mickey's "Champion Sound" event in Newport. It was held at this little art gallery that had interesting pieces and a cool eclectic vibe. It was such a good turn out..

Mickey (from kid city) surprised me, he was amazing! During his set, everyone crowded around the stage (even the security and the doorman) and couldn't help but dance..

Friday night, Saint took us backstage at the 1107 tent and caught the end of Dylan's (Le Castle Vania) set

We stuck it out like true fans through Paparazzi & Rusko (most obnoxious & sweaty fans EVER) to be front center for Club 75. To our dismay, Xavier was a no show. Big disappointment!

Just the first batch of photos from Coachella weekend. I miss it already. Joellen & I made the mistake of attempting to camp. We knew we wouldn't last the moment we pitched our tent up and the only thing in the tent bag was the canopy and steaks. (no body of the tent) Besides waiting 2 hours at 2am for a shower (once) and sleeping at 4am only to wake up 4 hours later from the heat.. I can't complain about my weekend. It was one of the best weekends of my life, as I knew it would be!

The sun is back, and spring is right around the corner. I have a few exciting things coming up. I have officially turned into a show junkie.. not complaining. My new years resolution was to spend more money on shows than things like clothes and food. Coming up in the next few months is the Surfer Blood and Best Coast music festival, Yacht with Small Black and Washed Out, Los Campesinos, Paul McCartney (YAY!!) & U2 with my mother in June.. Come summer, Joellen and I are spending a week in New York.. i've never been there before so I am very excited!

Sorry for the lack of photos. I recently took my film from my Holga to the processor but the film was loaded incorrectly & turned up blank. What a sad, depressing, nightmare!! I'll have some up this weekend.. Have a good weekend everyone! xxoo
